Hole 1 - "Camp" Par 4 - 327 Yards
This 327 yard opening hole eases you into to your round.
Most players aim away from the out of bounds on the left and end up blocked out in the trees on the right. I would suggest the safer shot is to aim at the left side of the fairway giving you more room for error each way. The place you don't want to miss is to the right. The elevated green drops away steeply making a 'up & down' very difficult.

Hole 2- "Caudle's" Par 3 - 122 Yards
A Tricky drop hole.
The hole is only measures 122 yards but can cause numerous shots. There's a steep drop to the left of the green and a slope to the right with a bunker. The best place to aim is the back right of the green. Any misdirected shot that hits the slope, can get a 'members bounce' onto the green.

Hole 3- "Paddock" Par 4 - 459 Yards
Shirehampton's signature hole.
With the entire hole being tree lined a straight drive is a must. It is a good idea to drop down a club or two to assist a successful tee shot. The next shot fools a lot of players. It's one of those that look closer than it actually is. My advice is to take a least one extra club, to ensure the ball carries the bank at the front of the green.

Hole 4 - "Pixton's" Par 4 - 371 Yards
A par 4 with an inviting tee shot, and interesting green.
The bigger hitters will have little worry about this tee shot. For those who aren't, the fairway bunker on the right side of the fairway acts like a magnet. If you're unsure that you can hit the green on the full, the safer way is to land your shot, short, and to the left of the green. This will allow your ball to gently run onto it, taking the out of bounds, out of play.

Hole 5 - "Park Gates" Par 4 - 414 Yards
A long uphill hole, one of the hardest par 4's on the course.
This hole is dominated with the internal out-of-bounds all the way up the right side of the fairway. After the drive, the fairway widens, but you're faced with a long uphill second shot into a very small green. The trick here is to hit enough club to get to at least pin high. Unfortunately if your miss the green, you're left with a difficult par saving chip.

Hole 6 - "Birches" Par 3 - 161 Yards
A downhill par 3 with no bunkers.
The fact that this green has no sand or any other major problems, on paper it looks an easy hole. But, the green is elevated on three sides (left / right / back), and is very narrow. Missing the green can cause the ball to bounce a long way from its intended target and leaving you a very difficult chip shot.

Hole 7 - "Dog leg" Par 4 - 286 Yards
A short 90 degree dog leg over trees.
How bold are you. This hole rewards the brave, the more you cut the corner, the closer you get to the green. The main place not to hit your ball is on the main road that hugs the right hand side of the hole. Most players favour to land the ball short and slightly right of the green to allow it to run towards the pin.

Hole 8 - "Spinney" Par 3 - 146 Yards
A tight par 3.
Accuracy is your best friend, hit it straight and you'll be happy, hit it badly and you're in trouble. There's a bunker and a road to the right, bunkers and trees to the left. All I can say is when you tee the ball up, before striking the ball, feel confident and picture the shot you're going to play.

Hole 9 - "Burma Road" Par 4 - 346 Yards
A par 4 with a daunting tee shot.
Most golfers feel intimidated by this tee shot. The ball only has to carry 100 yards over trees from an elevated tee position, but it can cause the biggest rush of blood on the golf course. The hole isn't that long, to hit two well hit iron shots to the green, so think of position and not distance off the tee.

Hole 10 - "Avon" Par 4 - 245 Yards
A drivable par 4.
The uphill fairway slopes heavily from left to right that can cause even a straight shot to roll into a well placed bunker. Beware, a loose shot left or right can leave you a very tricky approach. There is a bunker left and short with a big drop on the right, miss these hazards and you should have a good chance for a birdie.

Hole 11 - "Portway" Par 4 - 478 Yards
The hardest hole on the course with spectacular views over the river Avon.
Trees protect the left hand side of the fairway. The perfect shot to play is a slight draw, this gives you the best chance of missing the two big trees that encroach just off the tee. The green itself is well protected, a bunker short, another drop away to the right and a grass bunker on the left.

Hole 12 - "Ridge" Par 5 - 500 Yards
The only par 5 at Shirehampton.
Undulating is the best way of describing this hole. You tee off from an elevated tee seeing the biggest fairway on the course stretch out in front of you. You should aim left of the fairway bunker. A big slice can carry the ball out-of-bounds onto the A4. There are trees on the right side of the fairway which aren't visible until you get to the brow of the hill.

Hole 13 - "Sylvan Way" Par 3 - 164 Yards
The green is its protection.
The green is well guarded with bunkers on the right and left. If you hit the green it is never an easy two putt. It slopes heavily from right to left making downhill putts very difficult to get close. Always aim slightly right of the flag on the tee shot, this will allow the ball to bounce left towards the pin and giving you that all important uphill putt.

Hole 14 - "Cross" Par 4 - 322 Yards
A sloping par 4.
Position for the second shot is the order of the day from this tee shot. You need hit the ball over the top of the hill to get a good view of the green. The 12th fairway runs parallel to the 14th, so slicing the ball isn't the end of the world. The green is quite narrow and protected by bunkers and a slope on its right.

Hole 15 - "America" Par 4 - 348 Yards
A par 4 with a well protected fairway.
The uphill fairway drops away about 200 yards off the tee. A shot that goes over the top will then roll toward the trees on the left. A shot aimed at the marker post will leave you with a perfect line into the green. It is not always necessary to use a driver off this tee, once the ball hits the slope, it tends to roll to within 120 yards of the green.

Hole 16 - "Little Coombe" Par 3 - 160 Yards
An attractive but deadly par 3.
The green is perched above a drop on three sides, most severely to the front and right. Any shot that doesn't make it to the top will get kicked back and will leave you a frightening recovery shot. The best way to play the hole is firstly, insure you hit enough club to carry the coombe, secondly aim at the middle of the green and not at the flag.

Hole 17 - "Mine" Par 4 - 418 Yards
A difficult driving hole.
This tee shot has made or broke so many players' rounds, it can easily cause you to take a double bogey 6, 7 or more. The small green is guarded by a bunker on its left and trees to its right. The slight uphill gradient causes the second shot to appear shorter than it is. Take more club, as there is no real advantage in being short of the green.

Hole 18 - "Clubhouse" Par 3 - 186 Yards
A finishing hole par 3.
This is the best protected green on the course, a bunker short / left, a bunker to the right, out-of-bounds which runs from behind the green. Any shot that goes left will run down the steep slope. With all these problems getting the ball on the green is a must. The perfect shot is to aim at the centre of the green with a touch of fade.
